Causing a Ruckus and Rocking the Cradle

It’s that time of the year again, Wireless Field Day is upon us this week! For #WFD8 we’ve got what looks to be an awesome lineup of sponsors to harass meet.

Here’s the sponsor list, some should be familiar, some maybe not so much?

I can tell you right off the bat I’m REALLY excited to hear from Cambium Networks and cradlepoint, we’ve never had them at a WFD event so hopefully they handle the newbie status well and surprise us. I’m hoping that Cambium talks about their PtP products extensively as we generally tend to focus on indoor products only at WFD events. In todays networks redundancy is key and a lot of people utilize PtP links as their secondary circuits.

I’ve talked with cradlepoint in the past and was impressed with some of their offerings. Most of us probably only ever think of them as a MiFi type service and nothing else. But did you know that a lot of SMB’s use cradlepoint routers as their primary service connection? Matter of fact the TFD crew carries them and will fallback to them if there are issues with connectivity at speaker locations.

I’m really glad we are able to speak with Ruckus again, it’s always interesting when we go and meet with them. They have some really smart people over there and typically the delegates are impressed when we leave.

Motorola Zebra will be fun to talk with as well. I’m really interested in hearing how the acquisition has gone, how the products are rolling into the Zebra offering, and what the holistic solution looks like. When a vendor acquires another it’s always interesting to see how the product line gets integrated.

I’m sure Cisco will be talking about the usual location stuff and will probably bring up their new 1850 AP that runs a controller as well. While I’ve heard the location talk a ton of times I’m looking forward to the discussion that will be generated by the 1850. There are some that say Cisco is late to market and this is just a copy of XYZ solution, so it’ll be good to hear what they have to say as well as get the delegates opinion.

Finally there is Aruba, and I wish I meant the island, that would be really nice right now. I know I really appreciate Aruba’s commitment to the TFD events as well as working with social influencers in general, I think Sean is doing a great job over there leading that charge. I’m sure discussions will happen regarding their acquisition by HP and how nothing has changed nor will change, etc. More so I’m hoping we can get some further discussions regarding their Wave2 offering as well as their wireless sensor announced at AirHeads 2015 in Las Vegas. I think that little sensor could be very beneficial for customers if done right.

Alright, enough chit chat, when can you see each of the vendors? Here’s the calendar as it looks right now, and remember everything is live streamed by the ever awesome Prime Image Video to TechFieldDay.com
